Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an action platform game that places you in control of a diminutive elfish spirit called Ori. PLAY STYLE
You play Ori directly after the events of the first game, in the mysterious forest of Niwen. When you discover an unhatched egg from Kuro, the gigantic bird who perished when you saved the forest. You take the hatchling under your wing, and when you discover a new darkness threatening to once again destroy the balance of nature, you set out on a mission together to stop it.
Play involves running, jumping, and dashing to avoid deadly pitfalls and obstacles, gaining new powers that allow you to backtrack to previously unreachable areas. You fight enemies with your abilities and can even throw their own attacks back at them. Unlike the first game, Ori and the Will of the Wisps saves your progress automatically and also lets you choose what upgrades you get and in what order, giving you more freedom in how you play.
The result is a game that combines exploration and magical adventure with demanding combat and exacting movement. It's rewarding to persevere through the toughest challenges and there's a real sense of satisfaction when you find a secret area.
GAMEPLAY TRAILER
Review difficulty level
Some children might feel frustrated with different game levels or obstacles. Talk to them about recognising when it's time to take a break and turn their attention somewhere else. Often, when they come back relaxed, they're more likely to find success.
Master skills together
Some platform games require a lot of skill and combination movements, which can be frustrating to master. For younger players, set time aside to help them learn and practise the skills.
Build resilience
Platform games can promote perseverance. Encourage children to "try, try again" until they succeed while taking regular breaks.
Skill level age
Suggested by Family Gaming Database
Although always fair and easier at the start, this becomes a tough platforming challenge. Very young children will be attracted to the visuals, but are unlikely to have the dexterity and coordination to complete it. With the help of an adult or more experienced player, you could play at a younger age.
Content rating
Rated PEGI 7 for Violence and Fear. This game features flashy, over-the-top combat between fantasy characters. The violence found in this combat is unrealistic, as are reactions to it; enemies flash on being hit and disappear when defeated. Next to that, it also features monsters and creatures with designs that would likely scare young children.
