The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is an adventure in Hrule that stars Princess Zelda rather than Link. Play involves the usual Zelda exploration and combat, only here your main tool is a staff that can recreate things you've found in the world - tables, rocks and even enemies. It stands out for a more puzzle-oriented adventure with a more thoughtful protagonist at the helm.

Link has vanished and you play as Zelda in this new game. Strange rifts have appeared across the world, so it's up to you to work with your companion fairy, Tri, and use your Trirod as you set off on a journey across Hyrule to save the kingdom.

The novel twist is that you can copy objects and creatures for your own purposes. Because the items you copy come with their own physics and behaviours you can use them to progress in unique (and perhaps even unintended) ways. You can create echoes like water blocks that let you swim up to new heights, you can make bridges out of old beds, you can throw rocks at foes, or even create echoes of monsters to fight at your side in combat.

The result is a more thoughtful and experimental game, leaning into the crafting and inventiveness of Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, but with a toy-like aesthetic similar to Link's Awakening.

7+

Provided younger players are happy to experiment and get stuck, they can work out their own solutions to progress. Some resilience and perseverance are important. Because the combat is not directly controlled it's actually one of the more novice-friendly Zelda games.

Content rating

PEGI 7
Fear
Violence

Rated PEGI 7 for Fear and Violence. Violence is either directed at toy-like humans or fantasy characters. Violence and reactions are unrealistic in nature: enemies flash when hit and disappear in puffs of smoke when defeated. Zelda flinches and flashes when hit, but does not display any actual injuries. When defeated, Zelda will fall over and a game-over screen will appear. The game features some scenes and enemies that may scare young children. An example of this is a menacing boss with clawed hands
