Biomutant

Biomutant is an open-world role-play adventure about a Raccoon warrior in a large world filled with mutated animals. Exploring this living breathing ecosystem has the feel of a Zelda game, but in a broken-down steampunk aesthetic and with political implications for your actions. It's a game about protecting the environment before it’s too late.

Player vs Enemies
Team with Game Allies

After choosing your character's appearance, attributes and career you head into the world. Through branching storylines, you take on missions to heal the polluted tree of life and save the planet, following each of its roots into different realms. You encounter six tribes, three who want to heal the tree and three who plan to go their own way. As you interact, fight and adventure you affect the world and the state of these tribes through the game's political simulation. Will you ally with one tribe to eliminate the others, or work with them all?

As you progress you collect parts to craft and enhance your unique weapon. You can also gain cryogenic and electrical enhancements that help you in high-action battles. Winning these battles enables you to level up attacks and strengthen attributes.

Some areas of the game require certain abilities or customised body parts. As you gain these you get access to more of the large, rich world. Weather and day-night changes as time passes and you can seamlessly explore anywhere you can see in the game. Some of this exploration requires light puzzle-solving such as limited oxygen supply or barriers that must be circumnavigated.

Internet Matters Recommends

Consider time investment

Adventure games often take a long time to finish. Encourage regular breaks to get moving, rest their eyes and balance their time with other activities.

Nurture key skills

Many adventure games incorporate problem solving and critical thinking, important skills for school, work and more offline. Talk to them about their game to see how it supports them and their goals.

Build resilience

Encourage children to take risks with their characters in-game to safely learn potential consequences. Talk about what might happen outside of the game and why it's important to keep those risks in-game only. While playing, encourage them to think about innovative risks their character can take.

Skill level

PEGI 12
Violence

Rated PEGI 12 for Violence. The majority of the violence is mild and involves fantasy animal creatures fighting with a mixture of weapons and their mutant abilities. There is no sight of injuries and defeated enemies simply fall to the floor. However, there are also a few scenes of more moderate violence involving fantasy creatures, including a character being picked up and repeatedly slammed into the ground and a character being picked up by the throat and strangled.
