Super Mario Bros Wonder
Super Mario Bros Wonder is a running and jumping game that evolves the classic 2D Mario genre in weird and dream-like directions. You play with up to four friends, each picking from Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Yoshi and other Nintendo characters. It stands out from other 2D Mario games surprisingly well, drawing on the bizarre feel of the Rayman games to create a psychedelic multi-verse where anything is possible.

PLAY STYLE
While the gameplay looks familiar with pipes, enemies and boxes to bash, there's more here than meets the eye. Many of the new mechanics stem from the new Wonder Flowers you collect to unlock pseudo-multi-verse versions of the game world. From transforming into different objects like a bowling ball to lengthening Mario's neck or even the pipes turning into caterpillar-like creatures, this is a deep dive into a psychedelic range of realities - complete with talking flowers that narrate and cheer on the action.
As you progress you get access to more of these wonderful worlds and of course the essential Mario power-ups. Along with the usual Super Mushroom and Fire Flowers, you can transform into an elephant.
The result is a game that offers a fresh way to play 2D Mario. It takes elements from the classic Nintendo games but brings a new more playful and irreverent feel to proceedings.

Review difficulty level
Some children might feel frustrated with different game levels or obstacles. Talk to them about recognising when it's time to take a break and turn their attention somewhere else. Often, when they come back relaxed, they're more likely to find success.
Master skills together
Some platform games require a lot of skill and combination movements, which can be frustrating to master. For younger players, set time aside to help them learn and practise the skills.
Build resilience
Platform games can promote perseverance. Encourage children to "try, try again" until they succeed while taking regular breaks.

Although you are not on a timer for each level, you need to be able to cope with being under pressure and making accurate jumps. There's a lot to process on the screen. Like previous modern Mario games, if you die, the other players can bring you back to the action (although here you only get 5 seconds). Because the Yoshi character can't get hurt by enemies and can be ridden, it's a good way to help a new player get to the end of a level. It's worth noting that the player who gets the highest on the level-end flagpole becomes the leader for the next level. This player controls the game camera and needs to take care not to leave the other players behind.
Content rating
Rated PEGI 3 for occasional very mild violence in a comical or abstract context. Suitable for all ages. This game features very mild violence in a comical setting. Enemies are defeated by jumping on top of them or by using special powers such as fireballs. Enemies flash when hit and fall off screen when defeated, as do the protagonists.
